VVS Equine Telemedicine Referrals

During these unprecedented times brought about by COVID-19, referral may no longer be an option for a large number of equine patients that still need specialist level consultation. If you have a difficult equine case that you would normally send to a referral centre, we can help you by providing remote, specialist-level referral advice.

Our equine internal medicine specialist can advise on both emergency and urgent treatment and on practical management of ongoing internal medicine cases including:

  • Gastroenterology
  • Weight Loss
  • Hepatic/Urinary
  • Poor Performance
  • Infectious Disease
  • Respiratory
  • Neonatal
  • Endocrine
  • Oncology
  • Ophthalmology
  • Cardiology
  • Diagnostic Imaging
  • Neurology
  • Dermatology
GET IN TOUCH

Simply send us a case history, any diagnostic test results and your questions and one of our team will be in touch right away. Our specialist will review all your case information and will then call you to discuss the case at a time that suits you, whether you are at home or at the clinic. You may wish to include your client in the specialist tele-consultation, and if so we can arrange a video consultation ‘horse-side’ to include your client, with you linked remotely to limit social contact. Alternatively if you prefer, we offer Specialist Written Reports for imaging studies and clinical pathology.

You will be sent a recording of the tele-consultation afterwards, so that you can refer to it as often as needed and share information seamlessly with other clinical teams, which is so important for case continuity at this time of maximum disruption. You can also rest assured that if follow-up calls or reports are required, that they will be with the same specialist, who will already be familiar with your case.

Benefits of telemedicine referral consultations:

• Stops unnecessary travel as the horse does not need to be transported to the referral centre.
• Saves owner money due to reduced cost of transport and cheaper consultation costs.
• Saves time & enables quicker access to specialist advice.
• Increased specialist access for all of your patients.
• Increased learning & understanding of your cases through in-depth discussions with our internal medicine specialist, which also serves as bespoke CPD.
• Easy to access via phone, tablet or laptop.
• Continuous case care by the primary clinician, meaning no loss of case-control or understanding of what is happening with your cases.
